Artists, dancers, writers, scientists and anthropologists gather at the London Zoo to consider animal, human and artificial consciousness, language, and interspecies communication. Participants include writer Ted Chiang (author of "Story of Your Life", adapted into the 2016 film Arrival); artist Michela de Mattei (presenting a short film sequence based on her series of Skype conversations with a talking hill myna bird called Estée Lauder); dancer Claire Filmon (long-time collaborator of Simone Forti, who will be performing Forti's choreographic work); artist Rasmus Nielsen (from collective Superflex); Diana Reiss (Professor of Psychology at Hunter College, New York, whose research focuses on dolphin cognition), and more to be announced. Programmed in collaboration with Ian Cheng and Filipa Ramos. This evening is the first in a series of events over a year, dedicated to interspecies research, inspired by the pioneering work of Donna Haraway, Ursula Le Guin and Lynn Margulis.
